    日前癌症病童普金斯（Parker Hopkins）的父母與瑞佐聯繫，希望他能鼓勵孩子抗癌；當瑞佐聽到消息時，毫不猶豫地寫信激勵孩子，並捐贈2500美元（約新台幣8萬元）幫助孩童度過艱難時刻，而這已經不是他第一次幫助癌症病童。

    2007年瑞佐於選秀時被紅襪選中，隔年他準備站上夢想的舞台時，不料被診斷出患有淋巴癌，那時他只有18歲。他說，「當我被告知有癌症時，我哭了，抱著家人痛哭一場。」但之後為了繼續打球，他收起淚水，展開抗癌之路。
